Chapter 2Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15432550406970940247noreply@blogger.comBlogger630125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9076179970011255850.post-10570806509759605242012-08-19T21:40:00.001-04:002012-08-19T21:40:40.595-04:00Chapter 2 page 602–Saying Goodbye<p>As you may have noticed, I’ve been rather absent from the blogosphere for the better part of a month. I regret this has happened and wish I could have prevented it but the last month (really the last 3 weeks) have been absolutely a whirlwind. </p> <p>In the past couple of months and especially this past week I’ve said “good bye” to several things and wish that I could update the title of my blog to say Chapter 3 . . . as I have no doubt that’s where I’m at now. </p> <p><u><strong>Here are some of the things that I have</strong></u><u><strong> had to say goodbye to recently:</strong></u></p> <p>-<font color="#9b00d3">Soda</font> (so sad – I miss it everyday! Honestly think I’ll revert sooner rather than later, but for now, I’m holding strong! It’s been 2 months without soda)</p> <p>-<font color="#9b00d3">Crappy fast-food</font> (I still go to McDonalds on the rare occasion for a plain no butter english muffin and a round egg or a fruit and yogurt parfait and if in a crisis a grilled chicken sandwich, but LONG gone are the double cheeseburgers and fries! I don’t miss them at all . . . well the convenience of it I miss. It’s been 2 months.</p> <p>-<font color="#9b00d3">Donuts and other frosted deliciousness</font> (I had a frosted cinnamon roll today and feared it would drive me right of the wagon instead it was so sweet I didn’t eat all the frosting – THAT HAS NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE! It’s been 2 months – longest time ever except for when I was at basic training for the army). Recently I attended several gatherings thrown in my honor and ate 4 pieces of cake but none were frosted and none were the “normal” cake and none resulted in me falling off the wagon which I think is super awesome!</p> <p><strong><u>Now on to a more serious note of who/what I’ve said goodbye to in the past week:</u></strong></p> <p>-A week ago a close family friend died unexpectedly. My heart aches for his companion and his 2 daughters. He was an amazing person who lived a life we should all live – he did the things he really wanted to do and as best as I can tell he lived his life with no regrets. We should all be so lucky at the end of our lives. </p> <p>-I left my job of 8 years at a local hospital. I never discuss work on my blog unless it’s something amazing like my training groups, but work stress and the search for new work has been a huge part of my life for the past 6-12 months. I will so totally miss my friends and especially being across the hall from physical therapy because as we all know – I’m a heavy user of the rehab!!!! I loved my co-workers and was blessed with an amazing opportunity to work with some of the most talented people in the country! (Spoiler alert: Later this week I will post about my new job – it’s my dream job and I’m so blessed!!! It starts tomorrow . . . positive thoughts sent my way would be totally appreciated!)</p> <p>-I traded in my old 2001 Saturn L200 car. I had bought it brand new when it only had 42 miles on it and after 11 years ago we had been together for 165,438 miles! Man I loved that car. (Spoiler alert: I had to get a new vehicle because my new job which is quite the commute of 120 miles round trip . . .post about my new ride coming later this week)</p> <p>Well, that’s about it. I pinky swear promise to write another post later this week about all the things I’ve gotten to say hello to in the last week.</p> <p>Hope you are doing well and haven’t forgotten about me or deleted me from your google reader. I won’t be back full strength but fortunately when I set out to write this post I was going to add “saying goodbye to blogging”, but I just can’t do it – I love it too much and I’m hopeful that my hectic life of the last 3 weeks will subside a little and allow more time for blogging and running and blogging about running.</p> <p>Hugs bloggy friends!</p> Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15432550406970940247noreply@blogger.com15tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9076179970011255850.post-65400032798233352822012-08-13T08:40:00.000-04:002012-08-13T08:40:00.120-04:00Chapter 2 page 601–Chicago Hotel<p>I can imagine you don’t care, and honestly I wasn’t going to write up this post, but some of the pictures are lovely given I was on the 14th floor of the Congress Plaza so . . . read it or not – just thought I would include it in the full recap.</p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-7veYeoHT1p4/UB5p9uKOlcI/AAAAAAAAGGc/SLyDR4IkKPs/s1600-h/100_3462%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3462" border="0" alt="100_3462" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-j0IAytp-kts/UB5p-MsZjvI/AAAAAAAAGGk/RS9bnDToLA4/100_3462_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-WEt0zcJ5frQ/UB5p-qOtZRI/AAAAAAAAGGs/U_hE7WwlEZ8/s1600-h/100_3464%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3464" border="0" alt="100_3464" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-dAZdKI_EMPQ/UB5p_WsgF8I/AAAAAAAAGG0/7nCKPeuB9XM/100_3464_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-IM0nPnMqZvg/UB5qAL21kbI/AAAAAAAAGG8/Q-MkuiUX0iI/s1600-h/100_3471%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3471" border="0" alt="100_3471" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-gTbmp7PXwug/UB5qA31r-2I/AAAAAAAAGHE/5KtwqfTKl0I/100_3471_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-RDm3YNAkHZA/UB5qNVOKMMI/AAAAAAAAGHM/xhFLwZohA1Q/s1600-h/100_3472%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3472" border="0" alt="100_3472" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-t4S8SEdnK4E/UB5qNzXmpXI/AAAAAAAAGHU/j22uAAVNWPo/100_3472_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="244"></a><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Z7xEats-TXA/UB5qOcmmCwI/AAAAAAAAGHc/4RyGaaxe2wU/s1600-h/100_3473%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3473" border="0" alt="100_3473" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-pDnYizWErHI/UB5qO5g1NVI/AAAAAAAAGHk/IQgnnQoAY9E/100_3473_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="244"></a><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-OVRFFHTlHYM/UB5qPs-0FFI/AAAAAAAAGHs/9Nf7tMZGr8k/s1600-h/100_3474%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3474" border="0" alt="100_3474" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ryzEXHZIlt8/UB5qQW2zPTI/AAAAAAAAGH0/hvv_bjShsRY/100_3474_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p align="center">That’s all she wrote for Chicago RnR 2012! </p> Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15432550406970940247noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9076179970011255850.post-76695437320920417682012-08-10T07:48:00.000-04:002012-08-10T07:48:00.331-04:00Chapter 2 page 600– An afternoon of chillin’ while sweatin’ on the Pier<p>With MOA’s train leaving a couple of hours before mine, I found myself “homeless” (had to check out of the hotel early in the afternoon) and not a lot of energy I decided to spend a few hours sitting in an adorandak chair and just take in all of the scenary. At this event Cobra Starship was the featured band and there was TONS of freebies to drink, eat, and enjoy. McDonalds was giving away Cherry Berry Chillers (SOOOO GOOD since it was already over 90 degrees), Jamba Juice and Naked juice was there to give away samples – couldn’t get enough. The location of the post race party was in a large grassy area – so perfect to just chill (ha – it was really just a sweatfest!). </p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-4IA-C0cT_nI/UB5VTw7JRYI/AAAAAAAAFyc/NYva86BTJCo/s1600-h/100_3540%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; SIGH. It definitely wasn’t the plan, but I’m a “make lemonade” kinda gal so luckily I was able to drop down from the half to a mini (5K). </p> <p>MOA and I headed to the start line and we both agreed on one thing – it.was.humid!!! We sat on the curb during the pre-game entertainment (my back was already screaming just from our leisurely stroll from the hotel to the start line). I selected my Bondi Band because I knew that digging deep (to overcome my back pain) would not get the job done – I knew I would need to “dig deeper”. We opted for purple so I busted out the purple polish and brought my usual enthusiasm to the party.</p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-9x3IlEUyruU/UB5StIKu3CI/AAAAAAAAFrs/JhkNvuyJotw/s1600-h/100_3536%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; I did that twice and my back was SCREAMINZG! I felt as if this 3 miles was going to feel a lot like the 2 miler I had tried to do a month earlier (click <a href="http://mystorychapter2.blogspot.com/2012/06/chapter-2-page-590ingredients-for.html" target="_blank">HERE</a> if you want to remember the nightmare). During that 2nd walking break (about 3/4 of a mile into the race) I came across a true angel – Sonya! She started talking to me and invited me to stay with her – that’s it – I knew I would need that social contact in order to be able to finish this race without sitting on the curb, stopping to stretch, or possibly even giving up. Sonya and I walked and talked and enjoyed the beauty of the course. I owe her EVERYTHING! I LOVE RACING for that reason – people are just awesome! Here are some pictures I took along the way – just so beautiful!</p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-4ZrnWnkZssg/UB5TBcZ8y8I/AAAAAAAAFv8/jytuJObRDak/s1600-h/100_3574%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3574" border="0" alt="100_3574" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-i3-ernD2sb8/UB5TCH_Vu6I/AAAAAAAAFwE/iZLO1oSR9TY/100_3574_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-mguEBiAUB0o/UB5TCuBr2QI/AAAAAAAAFwM/Z5EXxna3lQ0/s1600-h/100_3576%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3576" border="0" alt="100_3576" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-vk3yCbkYMV8/UB5TDIYzYbI/AAAAAAAAFwU/OW3pbp5vGsg/100_3576_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-CKenooLPkTE/UB5TDgsnMJI/AAAAAAAAFwc/JRznPEhw8lg/s1600-h/100_3577%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3577" border="0" alt="100_3577" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-J1gVvcMcKVo/UB5TECKGufI/AAAAAAAAFwk/mo9_vxWKH70/100_3577_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-qtiKws6osi8/UB5TEtobvMI/AAAAAAAAFws/MKDa5vvmbBI/s1600-h/100_3578%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3578" border="0" alt="100_3578" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-NoXzBBpDFi0/UB5TFKezLYI/AAAAAAAAFw0/1w3cxFobjFw/100_3578_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-mHeUCZsGio0/UB5TGfm8syI/AAAAAAAAFw8/fCLbDSDX-_4/s1600-h/100_3579%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3579" border="0" alt="100_3579" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-e4zpwcbmso4/UB5THF4w8kI/AAAAAAAAFxE/MFSHLvHZnv8/100_3579_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-V05Lupm429o/UB5THn0d_MI/AAAAAAAAFxM/w5VOR7QAIMM/s1600-h/100_3580%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3580" border="0" alt="100_3580" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-L9ZZCBL3eGc/UB5TIBeF8fI/AAAAAAAAFxU/fCNv-6oSjSM/100_3580_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-lVDa0DXjJ3g/UB5TQw7-PBI/AAAAAAAAFxc/JRET1WE-Wp0/s1600-h/100_3581%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3581" border="0" alt="100_3581" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-cOzlScd0ZBM/UB5TRGfMjgI/AAAAAAAAFxk/aRLq2OyRpRw/100_3581_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-F8clkacScl8/UB5TRhn01eI/AAAAAAAAFxs/BAsyc78iTKY/s1600-h/100_3582%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3582" border="0" alt="100_3582" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-PJ8K01W42eo/UB5TSGoHQhI/AAAAAAAAFx0/4gJ8BWAt8DY/100_3582_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="244"></a><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-rBOQHOm8Mds/UB5TVAneePI/AAAAAAAAFx8/ca-JLcL0CMk/s1600-h/100_3583%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3583" border="0" alt="100_3583" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-opB0RokrCkk/UB5TVjq7KhI/AAAAAAAAFyE/7Wj0jNPfDDM/100_3583_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p> <p align="center">Here’s a picture of Sonya – thanks girl! Last year we walked out of there with BAGS FULL of samples and trinkets and goodies. This year, it was in a much smaller expo hall with none of the BIG vendors they had last year. It was comparative in size and swag to like the inagural RnR STL. Don’t get me wrong, we were still there 6 hours (but like 2 of those hours were waiting in line for the KT tape). Here are some photos from the expo – enjoy (and of course, me, well, being me!). </p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Jj43l32x3fU/UB5Kd5shPLI/AAAAAAAAFlA/3VuIvGihhdY/s1600-h/100_3480%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; To say that life has gotten hectic in the month of July would be an understatement, but for now, I REALLY wanted to share some (what I consider to be amazing) victories:</p> <p>1. I have lost 10 pounds (like a dixie cup bailing out the ocean I know – but it’s heading back in the right direction).</p> <p>2. I have not eaten a donut in nearly a month (or any frosted and filled confection for that matter).</p> <p>3. I have not had any soda (diet mt. dew and diet coke were my weapons of choice) in nearly a month (I used to drink at least 2 32 oz gas station drinks and or 2 large McDiets plus a couple of cans daily – huge consumer . . . pretty sure the soda stocks fell sharply when I stopped keeping them in business).</p> <p>4. On Saturday I bought 4 large red velvet cup cakes with tons of cream cheese frosting from Fresh Market as dessert for over the weekend and drum roll . . . the first night I ate 1/2 of one (I’ve NEVER eaten just a half let alone just one before) and the 2nd night I didn’t eat any. I ate the other half on the 3rd night and none on the 4th night. You have no idea how incredible that is – INCREDIBLE!!!!</p> <p>5. On Saturday I bought my husband a container of mini heath bars – I have had a total of 4 in 4 days (I previously would have eaten 4 at a time followed by 4 more and 4 more and 4 more . . . they’re mini after all). </p> <p>6. I think I am moving off of the disabled list finally and onto a “don’t do anything to screw up this fragile ankle” list (yeah, there’s such thing as that list and you really don’t want to be on it!). I’m going to return to running . . . slowly (like a mile at a time) a couple of days a week and SLOWLY and hopefully SAFELY build back up so I can run RnR NOLA in February. </p> <p>7. I have not eaten “crap” at fast food restaurants in a month (I have ordered the fruit and yogurt parfait, the apple slices, a turkey Subway sandwich, but none of the double cheeseburgers or sausage egg biscuits, etc) - pretty huge for me. Instead I’ve packed my lunch and eaten yogurt and fruit as snacks. </p> <p>8. I eat 5-9 servings of produce nearly every day – feeling pretty good about this. I’m not perfect in that I get the rainbow everyday, but getting produce most days is quite an improvement from getting enough produce sometimes. </p> <p>I know I owe you a Chicago RnR recap and I have unbelievably exciting news to share (but that will have to wait a couple of weeks – how’s that for a teaser?). </p> <p><font color="#0000ff"><strong>What’s a victory you’ve experienced lately?</strong></font></p> Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15432550406970940247noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9076179970011255850.post-7283977668101620182012-07-19T10:55:00.001-04:002012-07-19T10:55:21.522-04:00Chapter 2 page 594–Graduation Day<p>It was 9 weeks ago yesterday that my running plans for 2012 were derailed in a blink of an eye (don’t remember, click <a href="http://mystorychapter2.blogspot.com/2012/05/chapter-2-page-576-in-blink-of-eye.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>). It was 9 weeks ago today that I began physical therapy to begin the road to recovery. For a runner (or at least someone like me who LOVES doing races), 9 weeks has felt like FOREVER!</p> <p><strong>Most people would look at 9 weeks</strong> <font color="#00ff00"><strong>as </strong></font>2.25 months <font color="#00ff00"><strong>or</strong></font> 63 days <strong><font color="#00ff00">or</font></strong> 1512 hours <font color="#00ff00"><strong>or</strong></font> 90720 minutes <strong><font color="#00ff00">or</font></strong> 5,443,200 seconds</p> <p><strong>But runners measure time differently.</strong> <strong>For this runner</strong>, <strong>9 weeks has been</strong>: 4 halfs registered that have had to be downgraded to 5K’s or withdrawn from altogether <strong><font color="#00ff00">or</font></strong> 1 10K registered for but not comp <font color="#00ff00"><strong>or</strong></font> 6 5K’s that are annual favorites that I couldn’t compete in this year <font color="#00ff00"><strong>or</strong></font> 5 revisions of a training plan based on alternating progress and set backs.</p> <p>All of that is in the rear view mirror because today is graduation day from rehab! Here are a few of the many pieces of equipment that has helped me on this road to recovery. </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Q64Mq-T4j3g/UAgfi0HCdXI/AAAAAAAAFiY/EoHznAiQ18Q/s1600-h/100_3446%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3446" border="0" alt="100_3446" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-3xaS5dHkdjY/UAgfkgODhyI/AAAAAAAAFig/FOFiBxWlwlU/100_3446_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="292" height="401"></a></p> <p>Top: Single leg stand (balancing on a sprained ankle – ouch!) throwing a 2 lb medicine ball at a rebounder, catching and repeating for 10-15 repetitions WITHOUT falling over.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-8EL_3_VzB6k/UAgflBVGNaI/AAAAAAAAFio/mXqabmQZsP8/s1600-h/100_3448%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3448" border="0" alt="100_3448" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-CQ2ZDTjReZk/UAgfl_v07DI/AAAAAAAAFiw/vRACazOwuKs/100_3448_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="294" height="404"></a></p> <p>Top: Poor form – should be standing straight up, but “touch and go’s” (which in my opinion, can just "GO AWAY”). I had these for both my right ankle and my left knee and now they’re on my “for the rest of my life” exercise plan – wanna join me for a few?</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-gFk4xqeji7g/UAgfmbJ0gbI/AAAAAAAAFi4/tT6gQGw_Pqw/s1600-h/100_3449%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3449" border="0" alt="100_3449" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-kl4sseSWhgw/UAgfoP4XADI/AAAAAAAAFjA/XZWSynvOLKU/100_3449_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="384" height="302"></a></p> <p>Top: Lunges – we all know how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE lunges (not) . . . yeah, well, I’ve done bajillions of them. Believe it or not, this might have been the most painful exercise and now . . . I’m a pro (just look at that form)! There’s also a little shot of the Urban Rebounder (mini tramp) – used that a handful of times too. </p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Ou79y-4Yutk/UAgfoiBAJFI/AAAAAAAAFjI/QVq_WxYOjuw/s1600-h/100_3451%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3451" border="0" alt="100_3451" align="left" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Q-TT_SpsdUA/UAgfpEXygYI/AAAAAAAAFjQ/W2towir5ruM/100_3451_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="244"></a><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-XyWg1lGye3s/UAgfpp9e_kI/AAAAAAAAFjY/6uMhuZtyFGo/s1600-h/100_3454%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: left; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3454" border="0" alt="100_3454" align="left" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-LlB0vXDnMNw/UAgfqCQ6JlI/AAAAAAAAFjg/u5HGznd-Jos/100_3454_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="244"></a></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <p>Top 2 pix: Heel Raises & Heel cord stretches on a 4-6” step . . . these are my on “for the rest of my life” plan as well.</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Sk4ODy9qcts/UAgfqjsAvoI/AAAAAAAAFjo/rxwgVtmy6ns/s1600-h/100_3457%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3457" border="0" alt="100_3457" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-JhdvJsEjhWM/UAgfrIdoLCI/AAAAAAAAFjw/qLSeUDX1gqI/100_3457_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="384" height="302"></a></p> <p>Top: These 3 blue <strike>torture</strike> rehab devices and I have spent HOURS together. The top left is a foam mat that I got a LOT of practice balancing . The bottom round blue piece of equipment is like a deflated ball and was used to help me rotate my foot in and out – impossible for nearly 6 weeks, but now – ROCKSTAR! Top right and the picture below are the same piece of delight – a BAPS board (Biomechanical Ankle Platform System). You’ll notice the silver weights on the right side which make it even more challenging as if balancing on a board with a ball under it and then rotating my ankle CW & CCW isn’t hard enough . . . of course, we should add weights!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-AcDbSZWXBsg/UAgfwpjzzXI/AAAAAAAAFj4/A0iiw-rGqDc/s1600-h/A12934%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="A12934" border="0" alt="A12934" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-kmmhwn2LYHs/UAgfxF_bwbI/AAAAAAAAFkA/1QKppNR7KAo/A12934_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="198" height="204"></a></p> <p>Below: The treadmill – ahhh, we had some lovely times together . . . even if it was 30-60 seconds at a time. I’m on my way back! This weekend is the Chicago Rock N Roll. I’ll be doing the “mini marathon” of “about 3 miles” instead of the half, but I’m just thrilled to be able to walk 3 miles, get back into racing, and meet up with MOA! No? Where have you been? Click <a href="http://23imaginaryfriends.blogspot.com/p/new-2-u-cross-training-challenge.html" target="_blank">HERE </a>to get the 411. <br />
Still rehabbing my ankle, I’m sidelined from doing fun classes or anything too adventurous (with 100* temps in June, I was hoping to head to an indoor ice skating rink – COOL, right? . . . maybe in a few months). <br />
So what’s a gimpy girl to do? How about an ab workout? Sounds like a good plan – core strength is important. A few years ago I bought a multi-session ab DVD on Amazon, but have never even taken the film covering off it. So thanks Kim, I finally unwrapped it, popped it in, pushed play and got a “New 2 Me” workout . . . and guess what? I REALLY enjoyed it!!! Who knew!<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-tdNvyo5VzZY/T-8BQDoHWoI/AAAAAAAAFew/qlaKO2Jrep8/s1600-h/100_34165.jpg"><img alt="100_3416" border="0" height="423" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-838FJBy7_3E/T-8BQnlDpTI/AAAAAAAAFe4/oqMsUm-ugtU/100_3416_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_3416" width="301" /></a><br />
This DVD features 5 separate workouts taught by 5 “all star” trainers. Each workout was about 10 minutes long and included a quickie warm up and a couple of brief stretching breaks – especially when transitioning from being on your back to being on your front (i.e. plank).<br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-UxtWeGeHR4o/T-8BReZ7WYI/AAAAAAAAFfA/xOPBNnHs4z0/s1600-h/100_34225.jpg"><img alt="100_3422" border="0" height="341" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-uOvhoQvfvlQ/T-8BR1GAaFI/AAAAAAAAFfI/IaxmGKwaSKA/100_3422_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_3422" width="424" /></a><br />
The other nice feature is that you can select one workout or you can click on “customize” and pick a couple of the workouts and put them in the order you want to do them. I started with “ABsolutely BEAUTIFUL” with Rob Glick.<br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Vk7PJczMXGM/T-8BStiNsYI/AAAAAAAAFfQ/qF5dKE7EfYI/s1600-h/100_34184.jpg"><img alt="100_3418" border="0" height="313" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-2scaELnywyc/T-8BTIqw_cI/AAAAAAAAFfY/Ftl5XGYI04o/100_3418_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_3418" width="399" /></a><br />
After the obligatory “you might die so check with your doctor beforehand” warning, I met my “workout partners” (Ha!). The picture below makes them look like they are avitars – they were real people – but the photo sure makes it look like a wii game or something, doesn’t it? Hmmm! <br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-fZtsRM_aT_s/T-8BTtCp4uI/AAAAAAAAFfg/KzRktm8-Uw4/s1600-h/100_34235.jpg"><img alt="100_3423" border="0" height="344" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-T-pObhPPGQM/T-8BURpWf-I/AAAAAAAAFfo/P4XlQHAUmXo/100_3423_thumb2.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_3423" width="429" /></a><br />
I assume the position shown below and we started off with lil’ basic crunches. I thought – AWESOME – I can do this! My dog, on the other hand, thought I was on the floor to serve as her personal play toe and licking post! Try crunching while being licked to death . . . ha!<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-CrvugIyIslU/T-8BUyeTWeI/AAAAAAAAFfw/wYl2sQmIC0Q/s1600-h/100_34264.jpg"><img alt="100_3426" border="0" height="339" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-J7Dkd7liRCU/T-8BVZk3DzI/AAAAAAAAFf4/aEnhLoVICyk/100_3426_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_3426" width="247" /></a><br />
After a quick dvd pause, I got her a bone and she was otherwise occupied for the remainder of my workout. Shew!<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Ol4jgGYxbjs/T-8BVxAPOFI/AAAAAAAAFgA/C2jkq6PnyA0/s1600-h/100_34274.jpg"><img alt="100_3427" border="0" height="295" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-2MeuouAbQVU/T-8BWXEfiQI/AAAAAAAAFgI/Babjlwcursc/100_3427_thumb1.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_3427" width="375" /></a><br />
The “ABsolutely Beautiful” workout featured 5 minutes of on-your-back crunches which included crunches, isometric moves, and oblique crunches. These 5 minutes flew by – much to my surprise and happiness. We rolled over and did some stretching child’s pose and cat stretch. You can see “my trainer” below giving me personal instruction – ha!<br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-TAkKXAbcg00/T-8BW4iTwXI/AAAAAAAAFgQ/oSP4vRbM9t8/s1600-h/100_342810.jpg"><img alt="100_3428" border="0" height="287" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-4Mi9m9ZytjU/T-8BXaAQkuI/AAAAAAAAFgY/XXPyrWk9CpE/100_3428_thumb3.jpg?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="100_3428" width="365" /></a><br />
After a few seconds of welcomed stretching, “we” (my new ab friends, coach, and I) did 5 more minutes of: lower back work (like Cobras), planks and side planks. Throughout the video there were verbal cues for how many more reps “we” were doing and options to modify the moves. <br />
I REALLY enjoyed this – it was very doable for me so it might be too easy for most of you, but for only 10 minutes - it was perfect. I will definitely be adding these DVD segments to my weekly workouts!!! Body Pump Class with my girl Kimberly (click <a href="http://healthystrides.blogspot.com/2012/06/how-to-teach-bodypump-lessons-from.html" target="_blank">HERE</a> to read about it) teaching her first full Pump class (spoiler alert – SHE.NAILED.IT!!!). Here’s me a hot sweaty mess after class but feeling so happy about getting “back in the game” -</p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-C5blXqsEup0/T-ejb2HgAAI/AAAAAAAAFck/76HQ4WamG1o/s1600-h/IMG01008-20120623-0959%25255B2%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="IMG01008-20120623-0959" border="0" alt="IMG01008-20120623-0959" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-JXFOK4z919o/T-ejcZchQVI/AAAAAAAAFcs/vGSt0baAg90/IMG01008-20120623-0959_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="244"></a></p> <p>2. A delicious brunch at a local coffee shop type place with said friend and her super cutie son.</p> <p>It quickly fell apart to one of the most humbling runs I’ve ever had! The goal: 2 laps around a Big City park for an easy “long” run of 4 miles. The result: 1 lap of <font color="#ff0000"><strong>PAINFUL HELL</strong></font>!!!!</p> <p><strong><font color="#0000ff">Here’s what I did to set myself up for complete failure:</font></strong></p> <p>1. Been a slug for nearly 6 weeks while recovering from my fall – it’s incredible how quickly and completely fitness is lost!</p> <p>2. Underestimated the difficulty of “only” 4 “easy” miles after not running for more than 15 total minutes in the past 6 weeks.</p> <p>3. Set out to do said “easy” run within one degree of the hottest part of the day.</p> <p>4. Setting out to do said “easy” run on a full belly.</p> <p>5. Setting out to do 2 loops – I’m NOT a good person to do loops – it screws with my head “I will HAVE to run this whole thing AGAIN!”</p> <p>6. Do part of a Body Pump class for only the 2nd time in 2 months and then set out to do this “easy” run.</p> <p>7. Plan to run alone – I’m really a social runner, but can, if absolutely necessary, gut out a solo short run. 4 miles is short, but didn’t feel short yesterday.</p> <p>8. Stayed up a little too late the night before socializing with friends hydrating with less than optimal performance beverages (but I did have a lot of fun so it was worth it!). </p> <p><strong><font color="#ffc000">Here’s me, after 2 miles of hating all things running and walking and swearing it off for good!</font></strong></p> <p align="center"><strong><font color="#00ff00"><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Gl2ACWIk1M0/T-ejdPNGhSI/AAAAAAAAFc0/wZJU9QCQe_w/s1600-h/after%252520total%252520sucky%252520run%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="after total sucky run" border="0" alt="after total sucky run" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-BNfbgUGq1so/T-ejdr1-xQI/AAAAAAAAFc8/5L3bEaFI2d8/after%252520total%252520sucky%252520run_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="244"></a></font></strong></p> <p><strong><font color="#00ff00">So what happened? </font></strong></p> <p>My lower back SCREAMED at me the entire time. SCREAMED!!!!! I stopped 5 times for about 30 seconds each time to stretch my lower back in the first 1.25 miles. You have to know that I’m not known as a stop-to-strech during a workout kinda girl. The stretches didn’t help much and with 3/4 a mile left to get back to the car in the first lap, I opted to sit on a parking bench and do a 5 minute stretching session. That totally helped – even thought I might be able to gut out a 2nd lap and get all 4 miles of my “long” run done for the week. NOPE – about 1/4 mile after the park bench, my left hip which hurt all of April and May returned. Can’t catch a dang break for nothing!!!!!!!!!! SWEAR!!!!! I’m hoping this was lower back pain was a result of the Pump class and just generally being out of shape and that it will return to normal in a couple of days. Will arrange a massage and chiropractor appointment ASAP!</p> <p><font color="#ff0080"><strong>Anything positive?</strong></font></p> <p>1. My ankle was awesome – I didn’t notice any pain and the swelling was actually less than it’s been so . . . . that’s awesome.</p> <p>2. I dug to a deep place to get through this session – if nothing more, I got some mental toughness training in.</p> <p>3. It’s over – looking forward to the next run . . . . as I’ve been reminded so often before . . . they can’t all suck!</p> <p><strong><font color="#289b31">What’s the way you shake off a horrific training run?</font></strong></p> Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15432550406970940247noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9076179970011255850.post-20665337404888532882012-06-22T14:00:00.001-04:002012-06-22T14:00:01.403-04:00Chapter page 589–Ankle update<p>Hi everyone and happy Friday! Anyone else yelling “TGIF”? </p> <p>As you may remember, 5.5 weeks ago I took a nasty fall while running resulting in a sprained wrist and ankle and boogered-up (yeah, that’s a real medical word) knee. Today I saw an orthopedic surgeon for a consult. This ortho doc is a recreational runner and is familiar with my run/walk style and racing history/goals – always great to see someone who “gets” it. Here’s a progress report:</p> <p><strong>Wrist</strong> – some pain to be expected for a bit longer, but no fracture and should continue to heal </p> <p><strong>Knee</strong> – narrowing of a space on my knee cap but nothing to be too worried about at this point; clicking has improved by 50% in the 5 weeks – the clicking will continue to decrease (fingers crossed, I can’t sneak up on anyone anymore – ha!); </p> <p><strong>Ankle</strong> – this was definitely the most significant injury from the fall; still have significant swelling; still have constant mild pain with spurts of severe pain if I move it oddly; here’s the good news . . . . drum roll . . . I can return to easy running as tolerated (per the ortho doc) – WOO HOO! I was told to expect some pain and swelling for the next 6-12 months (SAY WHAT?!?!), but I’m permitted to run/walk as long as it isn’t more painful or more swollen than normal. I will also continue with PT twice weekly for another month. </p> <p>I’m a LONG way from being able to return to lower body Body Pump (nothing lost there – always did hate squats and lunges – ha!) or Piloxing (sigh – I MISS THAT!) or Zumba, but it’s going to be GREAT to try to ease back into more consistent running.</p> <p>Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!!!! RnR Seattle – I’d like to try it next year so I hope to read some rally good race recaps <img style="border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-top-style: none; border-left-style: none" class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" alt="Smile" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-54lhph0pstU/T-SyoM05bmI/AAAAAAAAFcY/pF-HCtPPH1I/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"></p> Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15432550406970940247noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9076179970011255850.post-82056972911455906952012-06-17T21:50:00.001-04:002012-06-17T21:50:40.921-04:00Chapter 2 page 588–Diva Dash Race Recap<p>Yes, you read that right – I participated in a 5K on Saturday (not exactly “raced” it, but definitely toed the line and crossed the finish line). <em>(quick note to any those pictured below – I will be giving you a special something to commemorate this special occasion in about 2 weeks – so stay tuned). </em></p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-d0ATAts7KPk/T96ImO29UHI/AAAAAAAAFXA/N65wmaAaUxU/s1600-h/100_3303%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3303" border="0" alt="100_3303" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-6Bx7zip9ecY/T96IpNCEXGI/AAAAAAAAFXI/NRrhR-wcWN0/100_3303_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="326" height="448"></a></p> <p align="left"><font color="#000000">With a 45 minute drive to the race, several of us caravaned to the race . . . no pressure on the leader (me) to not get us lost!</font></p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-gY-vCvL5OfU/T96Irvn_DaI/AAAAAAAAFXU/PpnuVtOhWC0/s1600-h/100_3281%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3281" border="0" alt="100_3281" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-m8e_YkSfjQs/T96IsxETlsI/AAAAAAAAFXc/ZcnYIxMmQ9M/100_3281_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="413" height="324"></a></p> <p align="center"><strong><u><font color="#9b00d3">Here’s the 10 key points you need to know</font></u></strong><strong><u><font color="#9b00d3">:</font></u></strong></p> <p align="left">1. I LOVED this race last year and it’s the “final exam” so to speak (it’s what we work up to) for my Spring Into Training group. It’s not required they participate in it, but if participants did the work during the 10 week training program, they were more than prepared for this even. I love these people – they are more than participants, they are my friends and words cannot express how proud I am of them!!! Here is a picture of my trainees who did the Diva Dash:</p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-AroftBM9vDE/T96Iv2VInGI/AAAAAAAAFXk/vriAdhxfXzA/s1600-h/100_3333%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3333" border="0" alt="100_3333" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-JNpN932tPIM/T96IxQipfAI/AAAAAAAAFXs/1YAKti44Mzc/100_3333_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="464" height="364"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-PXTxdchfTDU/T96Iz_v8gmI/AAAAAAAAFX0/PrbVpqwg-v0/s1600-h/100_3300%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3300" border="0" alt="100_3300" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-Zs5hlTNViNM/T96I0SDKvOI/AAAAAAAAFX8/Uy8AbDGWGRo/100_3300_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="442" height="347"></a></p> <p>2. My mom (wearing the sun visor below) is one of the most inspiring people I know. You’ve all been reading my blog for years know that she rings her cow bell and cheers me on at most of my races. My mom was a Spring Into Training participant and lost 40 pounds and went from walking zero steps to doing her first 5K on Saturday. She recruited one of the other Spring into Training Participants (“V” on the right) and her high school friend (“T” on the left) to join her. </p> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-M8IQsZD9MEE/T96I1JOKirI/AAAAAAAAFYE/qTgxteff3Yw/s1600-h/100_3290%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3290" border="0" alt="100_3290" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-gyeJCkOHBX0/T96I1k6qWAI/AAAAAAAAFYM/5xtZ9sfkxpU/100_3290_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="420" height="337"></a></p> <p>She worked hard and got to experience all the joy that comes with crossing a finish line knowing you gave it your best! Isn’t that a great photo . . . the 3 friends crossing together – not speedy, but a finish counts all the same!!! This was the longest (both in clock time and mileage) that I’ve gone since before my fall 5 weeks ago. I’m happy to report that for the most part it felt pretty good. One major road was not closed so we were forced to go on the edge – rocky and slanty didn’t feel great but that’s to be expected. It’s called the Diva Dash so . . . .of course I have to break out the tiara and paint my nails (Fushia POWER) – thanks Kimberly for the perfect bday gift to celebrate my comeback!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-x-aIGbiGVy8/T96I4EPXYKI/AAAAAAAAFYk/t-If-3PoPAs/s1600-h/100_3345%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3345" border="0" alt="100_3345" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-RQ1DNlTBcWE/T96I4lIIS-I/AAAAAAAAFYs/7eqk16_7kMs/100_3345_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="223" height="185"></a> <a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-m3jqtVHu-WA/T96I5QSNIGI/AAAAAAAAFY0/a4khW4Di5A0/s1600-h/100_3283%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3283" border="0" alt="100_3283" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-7rjv_n9_WE4/T96I57wrA8I/AAAAAAAAFY8/TQHOTHhSSU8/100_3283_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p>4. The women in the yellow (below) was a first time 5k’er last year at the Diva Dash after finishing the Spring Into Training program . . . this year, she went 8 minutes faster . . . improves that much in a 5K????? These girls are my friends and I’d like to think that I played a small part in moving them from walkers to racers a couple of years ago . . . at the Diva Dash, “J” said she did her run/walk intervals the entire time! I was still running she told me and I regret not stopping immediately to go give her a hug and high 5 – I’m so proud of her and know that’s a HUGE accomplishment worthy of a celebration!!! Way to go girls! </p> <p align="center"><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-l46UXIcV4S4/T96JBH0yDAI/AAAAAAAAFZ0/sH_sbW2T5KY/s1600-h/100_3280%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3280" border="0" alt="100_3280" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-qnNVDFxV7tM/T96JBmX5YqI/AAAAAAAAFZ8/Bs_EQBwsze0/100_3280_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="395" height="310"></a></p> <p>8. The Diva on the left was “M” and was a participant in my Spring Into Training. There aren’t enough words to describe how much I enjoy being around her – she’s a race of sunshine. She did this race with her mother (middle) and aunt (right). I LOVE LOVE LOVE that her family has come “caught the bug”. Her aunt lost over 170 pounds in a bit more than year by eating in moderation – such an impressive accomplishment!!!!! LOVE that this family did it together!!!! Woo!</p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-IVfxF4xtdKA/T96JEu5Ry5I/AAAAAAAAFaE/uHrZh5StAQo/s1600-h/100_3277%25255B4%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3277" border="0" alt="100_3277" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-vhi18RU1tUE/T96JFVNHDHI/AAAAAAAAFaM/GpplDozh9LY/100_3277_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="460" height="361"></a></p> <p>9. Speaking of family fun – This mother/daughter duo are just 2 of the most fun people I know. They have been in my Spring into Training program for the last 2 years and I’m thankful to call them friends. I really am impressed with the progress they’ve made and am so excited that “D” (in the blue) will be training for her first half marathon in September. I have no doubt she’ll do an amazing job!!! <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-s1Dl2gh4JVA/T96JGXHa_2I/AAAAAAAAFaU/h-GKUFr6_CI/s1600-h/100_3278%25255B5%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="100_3278" border="0" alt="100_3278" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-DdaLOFdrvFA/T96JJSuDfvI/AAAAAAAAFac/pxlJcNdLA4Y/100_3278_thumb%25255B2%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="407" height="330"></a></p> <p>10. It’s only $10 (bargain!) – cash only, please and payable the first night. </p> <p>4. Every session will be a group training session. Educational topics will be addressed in emails and handouts.</p> <p>5. Every participant will receive unlimited motivation and encouragement and learn how to move to the next step (faster, further, racing, whatever).</p> <p>6. To learn more, check out their facebook page (I’m trying to find the link, but I don’t facebook so I’m having a little trouble at the moment). <font style="background-color: #ffff00">To register email them at: </font><a href="mailto:parks@ci.bluffton.in.us"><font style="background-color: #ffff00">parks@ci.bluffton.in.us</font></a><font style="background-color: #ffff00"> or call them (260) 824-6069.</font></p> <p>7. Program is open to teens and adults or other children who have participated in a 5K or school running club. <em>Participants should be medically able to walk 2 miles in 40 minutes. </em></p> <p>8. What’s good about joining a training program? Training with a group is WAY more fun than training alone. Talking, laughing, and sharing makes the time/training fly by! Accountability, motivation, and friendship are also huge perks of a group program. </p> <p>PLEASE share this information with anyone you know. The more participation the better for everyone – more “group” for the training sessions = more fun! PLEASE spread the word and consider participating!! I’ll be there . . .and that alone makes it worth it! </p> Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15432550406970940247noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9076179970011255850.post-8334662565303495182012-06-11T16:33:00.000-04:002012-06-11T16:33:00.610-04:00Chapter 2 page 586–When you can’t run. . .<p>I’ve had a LOT of time on my hands lately and I’ve been a little like a kid in a candy shop. It really was my 2012 plan to not do any halfs so that I could get faster and save money to do fun races in 2013. I blew that plan (and believe God disagreed with my actions – hence I fell and got hurt) when I signed up for 4 halfs this summer/fall (I fell got hurt exactly one week after signing up for the 4 halfs). As of now, I’ve changed from the half to the 5K for both Chicago RnR and Indy Women’s. I’m still up in the air about the other 2 races (9/29 & 10/21), but feel if things with my ankle continue to improve then I hope to be able to do both of them. </p> <p>Last Wednesday was National Running Day and you got $20 for each RnR race you signed up for . . . so what’s a “broken” runner with all the hope in the world to do???? YEP – SIGN UP!!!!</p> <p><strong><u>Here’s what I’ve committed to so far in 2013:</u></strong></p> <p><strong><font color="#9b00d3">February 24th– New Orleans RnR Half</font></strong></p> <p><font color="#ff0000"><strong>March 16th (Saturday)– DC RnR Half</strong></font></p> <p><font color="#289b31"><strong>March 17th (Sunday) – VA Beach Shamrock Half</strong></font></p> <p><font color="#0000ff"><strong>May 4th (Saturday) – Indy Mini</strong></font></p> <p><font color="#ff0080"><strong>May 5th (Sunday) – Flying Pig Half</strong></font></p> <p><strong>Summer 2013 – Chicago RnR Half</strong></p> <p><font color="#00ffff"><strong>September 2013 – Indy Women’s Half, Fort 4 Fitness</strong></font></p> <p><font color="#00ff00"><strong>October 2013 – STL RnR Half</strong></font></p> <p><strong><font color="#ff80ff">November 2013 – St. Pete Women’s Half</font></strong></p> <p>I’d like to find my way to the PNW and to GA in order to meet up with some of my fav bloggers – open to suggestions. </p> Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15432550406970940247noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9076179970011255850.post-31946094445769569232012-06-09T19:49:00.001-04:002012-06-09T19:49:30.614-04:00Chapter 2 page 585– 18 minutes of BOOYAH<p>With the blessing of my physical therapist, I was allowed to attempt my first post-injury outdoor walk/run today. <strong><font color="#ff0080">YIPPEE!!!!!!!</font></strong></p> <p>Of course today there was an air quality alert and the temp was 90* so not exactly the conditions I had hoped to return to running in, but who am I to be picky at this point . . . I walked 8 minutes at 3.0 and 0 incline on the treadmill yesterday as part of my physical therapy. A whoppping .35 miles - watch out . . . I'm back . . . ha ha, not quite yet!!! <p>2. Without being able to run, I cannot tell you how many times I have literally thought "Oh the weather is soo cool this evening I'll just go for a run. OH WAIT I CAN'T". Or "I'm already up because of my dog, I'll just go for a run. OH NO, CAN'T!" I have had similar conversations about 50 times in the past 3 weeks. It's like I have a memory problem- duh gimpy over here. The irony? When I actually am running and training I can think of 50 excuses in .3 seconds as to why I will skip my next run. CRAZY! <p>3. Weather, at least for me, plays a huge role in my running. I obsess about the temp, the wind, the humidity – especially in the summer. I’m notorious for saying, “This training run isn’t worth dying over” meaning if it’s 100* and 90% humidity – there is no need to do speed training or pushing it too hard. At my level, recreational, there is no need to get a heat injury or risk death . . . another good thing about this injury? I can just enjoy the warm summer weather for what it is – warm and wonderful!!!! </p> Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15432550406970940247noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9076179970011255850.post-59783018050097914382012-06-05T06:36:00.026-04:002012-06-05T06:36:00.769-04:00Chapter 2 page 582 - A Step in the Right DirectionFinally, progress in my ankle rehabilitation! After 2 1/2 weeks of endless thera-band activities, stretching, icing, elevating, resting, balancing exercises, alphabet air drawing, and the like . . . finally, I was allowed to take a few steps on the treadmill during a recent physical therapy session. It was magical - magical! The 'mill (which I've never been soooo happy to use before) was set on a 4.0 incline and a speed of 3.0 so not overly impressive and it only lasted 5 minutes (I was able to do a whopping total of .25 miles), but it was the most "normal" thing I've been allowed to do since I fell. It felt GREAT! My therapist was awesome enough to take an action photo of me . . .<br />

I'm so sorry for the lack of running content - believe me, I have never missed running more than I have these past 2.5 weeks (it's really been an odd thing - might have to write a post about it - yes, indeed, upcoming blog post).<br />
<br />
In the meantime, while my ankle is getting better everyday, a girl still has to have fun so . . .<br />

Hope you enjoy what you read and come back often. <br />
<br />
Three Things Thursday:<br />
<br />
1. BOO to being injured - but I constantly remember it could be SO.MUCH.WORSE! I have been banned from any form of fitness walking or running (or jogging or shuffling or you pick the word - they were very clear to be inclusive SIGH) for at least 2 more weeks. BOO BOO!<br />
<br />
2. I have spent the last several weeks watching a family of Robins tending to a nest and now the baby birds are out of their shells and with my "b' nocs" I can see the little fluffy birds in the nest with their mouths open - pretty cute (and I hate birds . . .lil' side note for you to "get to know Wells L a little better".<br />
<br />
3. I saw Men In Black 3 over the holiday weekend - it's good. I'm glad that I saw it! I recommend it. That said, there are 2 name brand "fancy" movie theaters in the Big City. It's been maybe 2-3 years (or 4-5 who can keep track) since I've been to one of them. Holy ticket prices batman - a 12:50 movie cost $7.00 and oh no that wasn't the 3D version or the Imax one - that was the plain ol' regular movie. $7.00!!!! Weren't those mid-afternoon ticket prices like $4-5 not so long ago. YES I know - tight wad BUT I recently read an online article about 20 things that kids born today won't be familiar with . . . .yes, movie theater was one of them. At the time I read that I thought it was absurd, but after a $7.00 ticket in an uncomfortable seat there might be something to it.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><b style="color: blue;">How much are movie ticket prices where you live? What's your movie viewing preference (@ home with Netflix, redbox, dvd, online, cable or @ theaters)?</b></div>Lisahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15432550406970940247noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9076179970011255850.post-54335881397084881122012-05-30T05:07:00.001-04:002012-05-30T05:07:00.425-04:00Chapter 2 page 579 - Such an HonorEarlier in the month, I was contacted by the <a href="http://3riversrunning.com/" target="_blank">3 Rivers Running Company</a> (the awesome running specialty store in NE IN). They said that "C" and I had been nominated as the April & May runners' of the month. WHAT? Us? No Way!!!! Really? How crazy! What a HUGE honor!!!!! Seriously HUGE!!! Thanks 3 Rivers Running Company!!!<br />

Seriously, who falls off a perfectly new sidewalk and rolls their ankle while supermanning and ending up spraining their right ankle, left wrist, and boogering up their left knee and both palms . . .why that would be me, thank you . . . just try and do it yourself, or definitely don't! I have amazing news though, I'm making significant improvements everyday. I'm still not sure when I'll get to run again or how long it will be before it doesn't hurt, but I do know that I'm progressing and that feels awesome to me!!!!<br />
<br />
With the end of May approaching I had some anxiety about what I could do for my <a href="http://23imaginaryfriends.blogspot.com/p/new-2-u-cross-training-challenge.html" target="_blank">New 2 You Cross Training Challenge</a>. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp2ZaWyvnX0kJdg4nm8_fWmz6bgSuzWPRf7vNuxtOfQZJaAauRS4iGAOQ77Ew-pJKCnEHjccyPBRu33It6mS0hY4YGa6biFNElX9XOclr-w7LlX5uM7yf_xDKSk2vXcgy9552ufVBYV00/s1600/N2U+index+card.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="133" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjp2ZaWyvnX0kJdg4nm8_fWmz6bgSuzWPRf7vNuxtOfQZJaAauRS4iGAOQ77Ew-pJKCnEHjccyPBRu33It6mS0hY4YGa6biFNElX9XOclr-w7LlX5uM7yf_xDKSk2vXcgy9552ufVBYV00/s200/N2U+index+card.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />
I had SEVERAL ideas but most of them used either my left wrist or right ankle - boo! Thanks to Kimberly at <a href="http://23imaginaryfriends.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Just Trying is For Little Girls</a> for having this challenge, otherwise, I would definitely be sitting around feeling sorry for myself. <br />
<br />
This month's New 2UCT challenge involved this piece of equipment . . .<br />

It's an Airdyne bike. This is how the <a href="http://www.schwinnfitness.com/schwinn_fitness_us/products/airdyne/prdcd%7E3550012/Schwinn+Airdyne+Exercise+Bike.jsp?FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302042340&bmUID=1338215795191&gotoproduct=1&sku=3550012" target="_blank">Schwinn website</a> describes the bike:<br />
<br />
The Airdyne® Exercise Bike is simply smart. Wind resistance is exponential, so the harder you pedal, the higher the resistance becomes. This naturally provides the right workout for both a novice exerciser and an elite athlete. The Airdyne® flywheel provides smooth resistance while cooling you during the workout. The Airdyne® Exercise Bike is ideal for both fitness and rehabilitative use.<br />
<br />
Because of my ankle, I put my feet on the foot rest and just used the arm part of the bike - it wasn't overly exciting (like all the cool gym equipment or a new group fitness class), but it was a chance to do some safe exercise while rehabbing. Well, it's not pretty but . . . mission accomplished for May!<br />
