Chapter 2 page 395 - TR 146 what is going on?!?!

As you all know (all too well) - I get a lot of running related aches/pains.  I wouldn't go so far as to say injuries, but I get a lot of pains.  My hip and quad have been the most recent issue which I got a deep tissue massage and chripractic adjustment for yesterday.  It really has helped  - a lot actually.  My hip is BEYOND sore, but it's more (fingers crossed, I hoping) from the pain of the deep tissue work and the roller ball rather than the original muscle pain.  I got up from a seated position a million times today and was without the pain I had been experiencing for the last 6 weeks - SCORE!  I probably should have rested one more day - especially to give it time to heal a little more from the deep tissue work, but today was my half mary class and a GREAT opportunity to have a running partner so I left it kind of open about how far I would go, but that I would definitely go.

I did 2 laps (2.5 miles) on my own and it SUCKED!!!  It was hot, humid, and sunny.  My leg and hip hurt EVERY step - this was extremely frustrating since before yesterday's treatment it only hurt for a little while until the muscle got warmed up.  I sat on the bench and waited on my classmate to join me for 2 more laps (another 2.5 miles).  I discussed the weather because honestly the internet was saying it was 84* and only 51% humidity - really?  Because it felt much much much more horrible than that!!! She agreed saying she was sweaty just walking from her car to the bench - shew, it wasn't just me loosing all ability to cope. i stretched my quad and psoas before beginning 2 more laps - WOW that really helped!!! We did 2 laps together and with some added cloud cover, they went MUCH better.  We did 1:1 intervals the first lap and then because I needed to feel as if I could do it (trust me, I'm totally questioning my ability to go past 4 miles right now) we did intervals of 2:2 which also went pretty smoothly.  Altogether it was about 7 miles.  Not too shabby - wish I could have the confidence that comes with doing them all together and knowing I can, but . . . I guess that will have to be tested in 10 days and a wake up!

  3. I am so happy that we are able to run together, truly, it makes my week! I know you are struggling with confidence right now, but know that I have complete faith that you will rock in Chicago. You have trained long and hard for this and you will do great. I am so excited to hear how it goes for you.

I am so glad the stretching helped your pain, you are a-maz-ing for getting out there and doing these training runs when you aren't feeling 100%. So many people would just give up - you haven't and that will make all the difference in Chicago!

  6. Sounds like we have been dealing with similar issues! My hip has been hindering my running as well and I have a race this weekend too. Feel better soon!

  7. I know you're right in the thick of training before your big race, but do take it a little easier just to make sure everything is healing up properly. Keep on getting massages and doing the stretching exercises you mentioned.
